Making a start - Keeping records

Use XL to keep records on your computer, or better still, click here to get the free version of Treepad, to organize everything into whatever categories you like.

Register as an author with the following article directories

It takes a day or two for them to accept your application.

Sign up with http://www.clickbank.com/index.html (at top of their page) and note your membership details in XL or Treepad. Most important is to record your Clickbank username, because that is what tells them who to send all the money!

Once you have registered with them, click my account to login, then click marketplace.

Spend a few hours going through the marketplace to find profitable vendors. Don't consider anything that pays you less than $50, unless it is $49.97.

Each time you find a profitable vendor, put the details into XL or Treepad, organized into categories

Now, out of the vendors that look profitable, choose a theme (subject) that you know something about (the more you know and like your subject the better). If you don't know anything about any of them, you will have to do research on Google, starting with the website of the vendor that looks profitable.

Once you have a good knowledge of the subject that you have chosen, visit your Google Adwords account, and look up keywords for your subject. I describe this elsewhere on this site. Try to find more than a thousand relevant keywords.

Download your keywords to your computer as .csv file.

Now, because your keywords have some associated numbers that are divided up by commas, they would cause confusion with the separation into columns by commas. So these columns are surrounded by quotes (" ")

Open the keywords.csv file in XL. Save it as keywords.txt which is tab separated - i.e. the columns are separated by tabs.

Now open keywords.txt in Word, and click on Table > Convert > text to tables. If it asks you, confirm that it is a tab delimited file.

You now have everything in nice columns, but you still have all the quote marks.

Use Ctrl+H (hold down the Ctrl key while tapping H once) to call up the search and replace function. Search for " and replace-all with nothing. You have just got rid of all the unwanted quotes.

Create categories

The table now has a keyword list on the left, with details of other things elsewhere. I like to insert a new column in the second column. Then on a sheet of paper I write down sub-categories that I expect to see in a fairly logical order (it probably won't stay that way) with a two-digit number (01, 02, 03, 04... etc) opposite each sub-category.

Now I go down the table, writing the appropriate number in beside each keyword. Here is where things get out of order...there will be categories that you never thought of. Add them to the end of your paper, and put the appropriate number into the second column in your table.

Now sort your table. Highlight the whole table then click Sort. Click the box to tell it that the first row is headings. Now sort by your second column and put the type as text, ascending; then sort by number of visitors (probably column 3) numeric, descending; then sort by number of competitors, numeric, ascending.

You now have a table with the best keywords at the top of each category. Save for future use as a Word document.

Never use a one-word keyword because there is too much competition. That means that if you have the following keywords - online, make, money, website, affiliate with a million visitors each day, you look for a less popular keyword such as make affiliate money without a web site that has all the popular keywords included, but has much less competition. Your long keyword might have 20 competitors, and your single-word-keyword might have fifteen million competitors.

Pick about a dozen popular long keywords from one category and select the best keyword from the group, and write an article between 600 words in length and 1200 words. If you don't know how to write learn how from my account of writing articles or my videos about three article writing tools and one article writer tool, in the membership section.

Your article must have the best keyword in the title to please the search engines, but it also must be attractive to humans.

Your best keyword should also be in the first and last paragraphs of your article. Try to use all your other keywords once. That is to please the SEs, but remember that you also have to please your human visitor. This is a lot easier than it sounds, because if you are sticking to the subject you would probably be using these keywords anyhow. I use software that keeps track of my keyword density, but you can't afford it for a low cost start. Just tick each word when you use it, to keep track of which words you have used.

After writing your article

Put it aside for two days before editing it. You'll be amazed at the things you don't understand in your article, and even outright mistakes.

Meanwhile create a powerful resources box

This will go at the end of your article. You will distribute your article for free on the condition that they don't change the resource box. That is where your visitors will discover where to go to give you money.

Your resource box must give them a reason to click on the link. A good way is to refer to an important aspect of your subject in the last paragraph of your article, then in the resource box you say "Click here for more details about...".

Another way is to aim at a benefit. For instance "Impress all your friends, and even your enemies. Fly without wings. To learn how, click here."

Computer criminals try to steal your affiliate income, so you want to disguise your links. Once you have joined snipurl.com you can create a special url to disguise your affiliate one. In the nickname section, put a meaningful name. If you put the word flying as the nickname your url will be http://snipurl.com/flying and you should create a meaningful URL for each of your affiliate URLs, and record it in XL or Treepad, together with your unaltered affiliate URL, and the name of the vendor.

Use your snipurl short URL in your resource box.

Don't re-invent the wheel

Visit http://ezinearticles.com/ and look at the resource boxes at the end of each article. Write down any that would make you want to click through. You can even get ideas for your articles from this website, but never, never, ever copy anything. Write it in your own words.

Final steps to make affiliate money without a web site

Now submit your article to the first article directory. I have software to help me re-write articles with 30% difference (see software section under instant article software). You can do the same just using your brain to find a different way to say the same stuff, if you can't afford the software. Submit a different version of your article to each of the five directories.

As soon as each directory gets around to accepting your article (most articles are rejected as trash, so you won't have much competition if you write well) you should start seeing an occasional sale. Only about 1% of readers will buy and generate commissions for you. That is why you shouldn't offer the cheapest products.

If you have written an interesting article, website managers will copy it to their own websites, and that means more clicks to your affiliate site. A lot depends on luck. If someone with a million visitors per day uses your article, more people will see it and click your link than if someone with ten visitors per day uses your article. You can't control who uses it.

Or can you? Search for the top site in your subject, then find it's Alexa rating. If they have very high traffic, write them a really nice letter, offering them a unique article (re-write it again) for their site, and they don't need to include the resource box if they don't want to. Most website managers would consider that to be the height of ingratitude, so they will make sure that your link is fully active.

Don't wait for results. If you want to make money online without a web site you need to keep writing. As soon as you have placed one set of articles, start on the next good keyword. You should soon be able to afford a website with your income from articles. Then you can do fancy things like create squeeze pages for your newsletter and change each snipurl to point to your new squeeze page, which captures their email address then forwards them to your affiliate vendor.
